Frequently asked questions

I just installed the app — where did the questions come from?

FlashDB ships with a small starter set of 25 sample Spanish-English questions, tagged "Starter". They load automatically the first time you open the app on an empty database so you have something to study right away.

If you delete them and want them back, open Settings → Questions → "Load Starter Set".

How do I add my own questions?

Open Settings → Manage Questions → tap the + icon to add one question at a time. Or use Settings → Import JSON Questions to bring in a JSON file of questions you created or downloaded.

What does the JSON format look like?

Each question is a JSON object with these fields:

Optional fields: id (string), figure (image filename without extension), tags (array of strings), attempt_count, and miss_count. The JSON Format help topic inside the app shows a complete example.

I attached images. Where do I put them when I import?

Use Settings → Import Folder and pick a folder that contains both your JSON file and the image files. The app matches them by filename. If you prefer, import the JSON first and then use Import Images afterwards.

What are tags and how do I use them?

Tags are short labels you attach to a question to group it — for example "verbs", "chapter 3", or "hard". Set them in Add Question or Edit Question by entering a comma-separated list.

Turn on Settings → Behavior → Enable Tag Filter to get a "Filter by Tag…" button on the home screen that lets you scope a session to specific tags.

I missed a question by accident. How do I undo it?

FlashDB does not track answers unless you turn on Settings → Behavior → Track Question Performance. If tracking is off, nothing is recorded. If tracking is on, your miss is counted; you can reset every question's counts back to zero with Settings → Behavior → Reset Question Performance.

Does FlashDB sync between my devices?

No. All data lives only on the device where you created or imported it. To move your library to another device, use Settings → Export Questions on the source device and Settings → Import JSON Questions on the destination device.

Does FlashDB collect any data about me?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs that phone home. Read the Privacy Policy for the full statement.

How do I use the keyboard shortcuts on iPad?

With a hardware keyboard attached:

Is FlashDB accessible?

Yes. FlashDB has been built with full VoiceOver support, custom rotor actions on flashcards ("Flip card", "Next card", "Previous card"), Dynamic Type, and respect for Reduce Motion. The Show Live Score toggle in Settings also lets anyone take a quiz "blind" — without running score, haptic feedback, or per-answer announcements — when you only want to see your total at the end.

I think I found a bug. What should I include in the email?

A short description of what you were doing, what happened, and what you expected instead. iOS version (Settings → General → About on your device) and the FlashDB version from the App Store page are very helpful. Screenshots are welcome.

Reset, reinstall, or get out

Deleting the FlashDB app from your home screen removes all of its data permanently. There is no cloud copy. If you want to keep your questions before deleting the app, open Settings → Export Questions first and save the JSON somewhere you'll find it later.
