HamsterDB Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 16, 2026

1. Introduction

HamsterDB is a completely private iPhone app designed for amateur radio operators to manage their own Ham Radio station and contact information locally on their device.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information HamsterDB collects (if any), how it is used, and how it is stored.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

HamsterDB does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from you to our servers or to any third party.

3. Data Stored on Your Device

All information you enter into HamsterDB — including callsigns, names, addresses, license classes, email addresses, contact notes, and any other station or log data — is stored exclusively on your iPhone using Apple’s SwiftData framework.

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export it as a JSON file and share it yourself (for example, via AirDrop, email, or Messages).

4. Temporary Network Access for Lookups

When you add a new station, HamsterDB makes a temporary network request to the public HamCall.net website to retrieve publicly available information (name, location, and license class) for the entered callsign.

Similarly, you may manually look up information on QRZ.com and paste it into the app.

These are standard web requests to third-party public services. HamsterDB does not send any of your personal data to HamCall or QRZ — only the callsign you enter. Any data received is immediately saved locally on your device and is not retained by HamsterDB after the lookup.

Please review the privacy policies of HamCall.net and QRZ.com for details on how those services handle lookup requests.

5. Export and Import Feature

You may export your entire database as a JSON file. This file is saved to your iPhone and can be shared by you with other users. Importing a JSON file brings data only into your local copy of the app. We have no access to any exported or imported files.

6. Children’s Privacy

HamsterDB is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with an updated ā€œLast updatedā€ date. Continued use of HamsterDB after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.

8. Contact Us

Your amateur radio logbook belongs to you — and stays on your device.
