Reflections on a
Special Lady
A few years ago I bought Analia a compact
for Christmas. It wasn't very expensive but it had a pretty design on the case
and it had two mirrors, one that magnifies and one that does not. She was
delighted with it and has got a lot of use out of it. Then this year the
design, which was laminated to the case, started coming loose. I tried to repair
it with epoxy, but only managed to break one of the mirrors.
So this year when I started thinking about Mothers Day, I thought I would look
around and see if I could find another compact that was worthy of her. I
searched the malls and specialty stores with very little luck but I finally
found one that I thought might just do. Naturally Mothers Day requires a card,
and this poem was included in hers to express a few of my thoughts about my
sweetheart and my gift for her.

Reflections on a Special
Lady
This mirror is a special one
As you can plainly see.
Its glass reflects the love that I
Am blessed each day to see.
It's kept where light can seldom come
As treasures often are
And buried under magic things
From lands both near and far.
Once it lay in quiet drawers
Awaiting days of spring,
When maidens with their laughing eyes
Their songs of love would sing,
And seek to peer in pools of glass
At eyes and shiny hair
And comb the strands that brush the face
With features soft and fair.
And then one day I chanced to spy
It lying in a case.
I thought of her with dancing eyes
And tears upon her face.
I thought of lips with loving words
And smiles that send a light
That warms my heart and lights my way
Through the dark and stormy nights.
It takes a special mirror to
Reveal the special things
That made me want to make her mine
And all her love can bring.
