The New Baby
This poem was written in honor of the birth of Cate Pedersen. The poem accompanied her baby gift. Sue was a little late in having the baby and more than a little impatient. I fear that Sue has also been the recipient of more than a little of my teasing but that is because she has always seemed like a sister.

The New Baby
She's here! She's here! Have you heard the news?
And she's beautiful as one could choose.
But here I sit staring at my shoes,
You know the tune, post-partum blues.
She came at such a merry gait.
We didn't have so long to wait.
In fact, you know, 'twas mom was late.
Any how, we named her Cate.
Her eyes are dark, her hair is fair.
She's such an angel lying there.
And here I stand in near despair,
Combing out my thinning hair.
Having kids is such a lark,
You know, just like a walk-in-the-park.
And if you believe that silly remark,
It's clear to me you're a patriarch.
