The Blessing

This poem was written for the occasion of the blessing of my first grandchild, Jordyn Marie Wolfenbarger.  She was born on May 4, 1995, to my son, John and his wife, Becky.  Our family traveled to Provo, Utah where John and Becky are living while he attends Utah Valley State College.  Also there were Becky's father and her brothers and sisters.  As we took this child into our arms to give her a name and a blessing, my heart was truly full. After the blessing I glanced over at Jim Randall, (Becky's father,) I could see tears in his eyes.  It is truly a blessing to be able to hold a sweet child in your hands and see the Spirit of the Lord working in her life and in the lives of her parents.

The Blessing

Our hearts are full this Sabbath day

As before the Lord we pray.

We take this child into hands

And bless her life this day.

Mother, father, grandparents, too,

Are in the happy throng.

We raise our voice in joyous strains

And sing our happy song.

Our family has grown by one sweet child

Straight from our Father's home,

And joined our family where she will grow

And never be alone.

We know the Lord will bless her life

Through all the days and hours.

We wish for her life's choicest gifts

As she has now blessed ours.
