A New Flower in My Garden

On April 9, 1994 my son, John, married Rebecca Randall in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As we were sitting in a waiting room, waiting to go up for the ceremony, I looked over at John and Becky and thought what a beautiful flower she is and what a blessing she is to John and our whole family. As I sat there words began to come and before we were called to go up for the ceremony, I wrote this poem.

A New Flower in My Garden

There's a new flower in my garden
And she's dressed in snowy white.
She wasn't there just yesterday,
She just appeared last night.

She's there beside the rose that's been
My pride for many years,
The one I've loved and fed and nourished
And watered with my tears.

And now they stand apart
In a place that's all their own,
And there they will grow together
In what is now their home.

There are new flowers in my garden.
What joy they have brought to me.
They will brighten up my garden
For all eternity.
