The Path
This poem was written for the wedding of my grandniece Joely Newton (now Billings.) It reflects the belief of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and, thus, my belief that if we make and keep certain covenants with the Lord that a marriage can last through the eternities. It was my privilege last year to baptize Joely and she is truly a wonderful young lady. It is my hope that her marriage is truly one that time cannot end and that she and her husband, Robert, will keep their feet on the path to forever.

The
Path
Today your feet have started on
A
path that leads forever.
The two of you have joined your lives,
A bond
time cannot sever.
You promise that your heart is owned
By
none but your sweet mate.
Your love you give to one alone,
Whatever the
twists of fate.
The love that burns within you now
Was
kindled at heaven's hearth.
It helped you see what's in each of you
That
God knew from the start.
Love can make your eyes grow dim
So
faults you cannot see
Or make your eyes so sharp that you
See what is
meant to be.
Love can forge a happy home
Where
children laugh and play
And parents teach the word of God
Each
and every day.
No one knows where your path will
lead
As hand in hand you go,
But that the path you choose need have no
end
Is the one thing you must know.
May happiness fill your every day
And
good fortune your every endeaver
Hold fast to the rod that leads you the
way
And your feet on the path to forever.
