Some years ago we had a lovely Maltese dog named Button. She was really a great joy in our life and it was a sad day when she passed away. Since then I have had snakes and lizards but nothing matches the affection of a dog. We live in a gated community and we have a very small back yard, and the fence is not real close to the ground and when friends have visited with their dogs, it was very easy for them to get out. So Analia had always said no more dogs. Last year I was starting to get a little tired of my bearded dragon and started talking about getting a ferret. I had been reading about how affectionate and playful they are. You would have thought that I had said that I was going to get a kumodo dragon. .They bite -- they smell -- a really bad idea!.. Finally in a moment of weakness, Analia said, .forget the ferret, get a puppy.. I immediately started looking. We went to see a couple of dogs that were being advertised for sale but those didn.t really impress us. Finally Jen called me one night and said to look at a particular website. It was for a breeder in Idaho who breeds Yorkshire Terriers and Bishon Friezes. Right in the middle of the page was a beautiful Maltese puppy. I called the breeder and arranged for us to see the puppy. It.s 4 hours 1 way to Buel, Idaho. On Saturday Jen and her oldest son, Noah, and I drove to Buel. The puppy was beautiful and very social and they called her Balinda. It didn.t take long to make the decision and we drove home with the puppy and we call her Gabby. We all adore her.

Gabby
Her coat is white, a pure delight, the color of fallen snow.
Her tail is curled, a gentle twirl that bobs as off she goes.
She loves to play throughout the day 'til evening shadows fall.
She.ll pull on a cord, she never gets bored, and she's strong for one so small.
She'll chase a ball as she slips and falls over the hardwood floor.
She'll bring it back and that's a fact, excited to go for more.
Off she runs and back she comes, performing this simple feat,
But if you want her ball, don't bother to call -- to get it will cost you a treat.
When we go to the park, she loves to bark a welcome to all we see.
She sniffs and she smells as her barking just swells, happy just being free.
She rides in the car though local or far, perched in her very own seat.
She barks with delight at every new site and a greeting to all we see.
Our walks are a time whether fast or sublime when we stretch our legs for a while.
The people we meet are a wonderful treat as she wags her tail and they smile.
We've been to new places and met some new faces along our varied route.
Now my eyes want to close in peaceful repose but Gabby still needs to go out.
