Farewell

I have spoken before of my friends, Sherri and Jerry Bletzacker. They have truly been dear friends and a couple of my finest critics. When they moved to this area from Virginia, it was to be with their daughter who was living here. But no sooner had they moved here than she married and moved to Connecticut. And to make matters worse, their son had decided not to move with them and had stayed in Virginia. So now the longing to be with their children has got the better of them and they are moving to Connecticut to be closer to them.

It is not often that one has the opportunity to meet people that you truly feel a oneness with. But in my life, Sherri and Jerry have been such people. It is with a deep feeling of lose, yet best wishes for their future, that I dedicate "Farewell" to them.

Farewell

It seems like only a moment ago

When first the day we met.

It seems like only yesterday

Our lives entwined and yet,

The years have come and hurried on

And time has streaked my hair,

And memories fill my graying brow

Of friends so choice and rare.

You've come to mean so much to me.

I cherish things we share.

You truly have enriched my life

Beyond this world of care.

We've laughed together for a while

And cried when life seemed gray.

We've shared some secrets from our soul

And things gathered 'long the way.

But life stands still for no man

And changes are a part

Of what the end will surely be,

Each day is but a start.

And so the time has come when we

Must say farewell for now,

And start anew a different course

And find a way somehow

To travel on life's rocky road,

The wind upon our face,

And keep alive within our hearts

The friends we now embrace.

And so may the Lord now travel

With every step you take

And guide your lives o'er all your roads

And every choice you make,

Until that time when we once more

Can reunite and be

Together in this earthly realm,

Or in eternity.
