A Twinkle in His Eye

When we moved into our new home in South Jordan we soon learned that we have wonderful neighbors. Everyone is so kind and accepting. Across the street from us are Richard and Marion Lindsay. They are really a wonderful couple. Shortly after we moved in Analia asked me if I had noticed them in church or other activities. She had noticed that no matter where he was or what he was doing, if she was in the room he always had his eye on her. If he caught her eye he would give her a little wink.

During this last year Richard's health has steadily deteriorated until June 4th he quietly passed away. Taking care of him during his progressing illness has been a tremendous strain on Marion but she never complained.

As I thought about them I realized how much they had affected me. Watching the two of them together made me realize how fortunate I am to have my sweet wife and how difficult it would be to be parted from her even for just a few months or years. I hope I can be be half the man, father and husband to my family that Richard Lindsay was to his.

A Twinkle in His Eye

Who is that man standing there, the one with the twinkle in his eye?

Is he someone's forever sweetheart? Does she know that she's his reason why

He rises from his bed each day with a smile upon his face

His goal is to be always found worthy of her gentle grace.

Does she know that for him living is the time they spend as one?

That dying is the time he spends waiting for her return?

Does she know she is his precious gift sent him from on high?

Does she know across a crowded room she always has his eye?

Does she know? Oh, yes, she does, he tells her every day

And shows her with his every deed and every little way.

He makes his world around her spin and makes her world his.

He shows her she is his one desire in all he does and says.

Their worlds have been so entwined over half a century now,

Since they were joined in God's holy house and made their sacred vows.

They've raised a family and earned their way and served both God and man,

And made their way on life's rocky road ever hand in hand.

They've known the best life has to give and then some sorrow too.

They met it all with heads held high in all they say and do.

And now the time has come when for a while they must part,

When death takes one and the other stays to grieve with lonely heart.

Until that day in the realms on high she chances there to spy

A smiling face and a man watching her with a twinkle in his eye.
